Title: Bicycling on Camino Del Rey and Buddhist Monastary
Post by: Lisa Ruby on February 03, 2012, 09:27:24 PM
Hi,

Hope this is the right forum for posting this. I received this e-mail today via the roadies e-mail address.  Lisa

I live in Bonsall, and I am trying to contact bicycling organizations that regularly ride on Camino DEl Rey, West Lilac, Old River Road, and Old HWY 395. The County is poised to approve a Buddhist monastery (megachurch) on Camino DEl REy, 35,000 square feet worth. They are being approved for 300 people (every) Saturday and Sunday (although they have a history of having more), and four special events a year that could draw many more. They typically have fleets of buses involved as well.
I am writing because the traffic study they submitted to the County states that there are no bicyclers that will be affected, and we know this is quite untrue; we see bicycle events frequently on these streets. What we don't know is the schedule and frequency of such events. The roads will not be closed, but bicyclers will have a merry time contending and competing with 100 cars and many buses on Camino Del Rey on weekends (especially mornings), and the County needs to factor that in. If you could help by providing event information, contacts for any other bicycling organizations you know use these streets, and by informing your members (the SDC Planning Commission meeting is Feb. 10) it would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
