When riding north on coast highway through Oceanside be extra cautious here. There is usually a vehicle parked just like this often a truck with dual wheels blocking the entire bike lane. Having companies many times to the OPD about the problem I now see why nothing was done to correct it.
Lovely. I have a similar problem (not with law enforcement though) with cars that park halfway into the bike lane in a spot along Pomerado Road in Poway. Very similar situation to this one. There is parking along there, but the parking area ends, and people try to squeeze that last car into a spot that does not exist and end up partway into the bike lane. It's not always the same car, so hard to get the Sheriff's department involved.
Yesterday on my way to work (driving) a motorcycle officer was blocking the bike lane after (I assume) giving a ticket to someone. A cyclist exited the bike lane to go around him. The officer looked up and then got on his motorcycle, followed him and pulled him over. I can only assume he pulled him over for exiting the bike lane with a solid white line?? Frustrating.
Vista must be short of funds since I saw the same motorcyclist officer giving tickets in the same area today on Melrose near RBV high school.
I would have hung around and waited for the Police Officer to leave and then ask the bicyclist what was going on. This will be very interesting as there are many times we have to go out of the bike lane to either go around a parked car or debris on the lane or metal & concrete utility covers....
Anthony, that's a pretty interesting situation, and I'm sure quite easy to fight if done well. Here we have a possible example of a LEO that is not fully understanding of the laws it must enforce. Last month riding on Hwy 79 on the climb through Cuyamca, a forest ranger stopped on the side of the road (which was more like in the road as there is no shoulder and a narrow lane to begin with) shouted at my group of 6 to ride single file, which is not required under any law, on that road. As for Vista being short on cash, well, they contract with SD Sheriff so I'm not sure if they get all the money or not. I work out that way in the business park area and can say I'm always happy to see them doing traffic duty. It's pretty normal for people to travel at 10 - 20 mph over the posted limit as well as run red lights and stop signs.
