Title: League Cycling Instructors - LCI Training
Post by: Margareth Demery on October 15, 2013, 11:35:20 PM
Does anybody have information on next LCI training classes in North County? This for those that have already competed the Traffic Skills 101 course.

Thanks,
Peg

LCI Training Seminar schedules may always be found at: http://www.bikeleague.org/content/seminar-schedule . These occur occasionally in the San Diego area (three in the past five years), but people often do travel a bit to catch the LCI training - Nicole Burgess of Ocean Beach recently got her LCI certification in Wash, DC. There are about four more across the USA for the rest of 2013. There is a good one this coming weekend in Tucson by Jim Harms, who also led the last one in Oceanside, March 2011. He's quite good. However, it is too late to register for that. You need to register at least 3-4 weeks in advance and there is an intense exam and set of reading material which you need about two weeks to go through prior to the seminar, as it hits the ground running. This is a very interactive session, following a "train the trainer" format, where the participants take turns leading teaching sessions of mock TS 101 and 201 students. Be prepared for this as this is not a class where you sit there and absorb information from an instructor. You learn most from being part of an active learning team of future LCIs.

Thanks Karl for the update.  Yes, I got info for the LCI on the site, but nothing local.  Also understand what is expected which I learned in the 101 course from Pete P.  Will just keep on checking until there is a local one one of these days...Peg

Peg - You could also email Alissa Simcox, who is the LAB Training Coordinator, indicating your interest. If she knows there are a number of people in this area interested in becoming LCIs, that may help get another one scheduled. They seem to happen every couple years, which means we're due for one. You can reach Alissa at alissa@bikeleague.org. There is no regular cycle as there are only about 3600 LCIs across the country and far fewer qualified to run the LCI training seminars. - Karl
