I was wondering: with the Carlsbad marathon and half-marathon being this week end (go Heidi, Matt and Noel :) - and others I might not be aware of), is it a good idea to start the long ride from Magee Park? Or would it be better to meet in another place, such as the Oceanside Harbor parking lot, for example?
Thanks for the heads up, Frederic. It never fails - we always forget about that event when scheduling rides. Fortunately, we get away from the coast quickly and stay away from the coast. Another start possibility might be the parking lot at Faraday and College, more closely aligned with the route. Anyone have any other ideas? Let's plan on changing the start location for sure. I'll post something tomorrow night or Sat afternoon once it's definite. Hey - maybe we can start at John's place - under construction - since it's his ride 8)
All - let's just start at Palomar Airport (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Palomar+Airport+Rd+and+Yarrow+Rd,+Carlsbad,+,+California,+United+States&sll=33.037881,-117.238755&sspn=0.008544,0.021629&layer=&ie=UTF8&z=16&ll=33.125997,-117.275341&spn=0.008536,0.021629&om=1&iwloc=addr), a regular Sunday ride start location. On your way over, come the "back way" (Camino Vida Roble to Yarrow) as Palomar Airport Rd. may be closed (I'm unsure of the course). We'll improvise our way to N. River, probably El Camino. This will shorten the ride a little, but we'll get to the football game earlier :). Spread the word to avoid Magee Park...
Just checked out the marathon course details. You can view the course by clicking here (http://www.carlsbadmarathon.com/Marathon/new_marcourse_detailsc38c.htm). The east bound lanes on Palomar Airport Rd will be closed to El Camino Real. Someone thought that Yarrow was part of the course - it is not, so coming in the back way should workt. If there are any problems, there also is a business park at Camino Vida Roble and El Camino Real if you can't get back to our normal start poin. We HAVE, in the past, had no problem parking at the usual spot during this event so just cross your fingers. At any rate, if you're anywhere along El Camino from Airport Rd to Mesa in the 8:30 timeframe, you can hook up with the ride.
