Dear NCCC members,
Congress is in the final stages of passing a transportation bill, and Senator Boxer is key to this decision.
In the Summer, Senator Boxer fought hard for the Senate to pass the DRIVE Act which included a number of key improvements to the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), that add up to big improvements for bicycling and walking. These changes include giving local governments more control over funding for biking and walking, make it easier to get bike/ped projects on the ground faster, and make it easier for states to fund non profits to do education on safe routes to school.
This month the House passed the STRRA Transportation bill, which maintains the TAP program but doesn't include the improvements made in the House bill.
Right now Senator Boxer is A CRITICAL voice among small group of Senators and Representatives that is working out a compromise between the House and Senate bill.
Please contact Senator Barbara Boxer and ask her to protect and maintain the Senate Language on Transportation Alternatives!
