The Smart Cycling Class schedule is set for 2017. Classes are offered monthly alternating between Oceanside and Mira Mesa (Qualcomm). For more info and to register for any of these classes, visit https://sdbikecoalition.org/smart-cycling/
Many NCCC members have taken this course. If Pete Penseyres, two-time winner and former record holder of Race Across America, could learn new things with over 600.000 miles under his belt, so can you. As Robert Abraham said after taking this course, "If you think you don't need to take this course, then you NEED to take this course."
For experienced cyclists the main takeaway will be thoroughly understanding your legal rights and responsibilities and how you can use this to enhance your safety while coexisting with traffic, either in urban areas or out on the more scenic roads we use for our weekend rides. You may also be pleasantly surprised to learn about some emergency maneuvers that will also help you handle your bike better in non-emergency situations, such as proper braking and counter-steering through a descent.

I took this class and highly recommend it. I gained so much knowledge about cyclists rights/responsibilities on the road which has helped me feel safer and more confident riding my bike. The "Road Session" is on a Sat and we (me, Dale and Tony Long) rode our bikes to/from Oceanside. I had difficulty giving up the Sat club ride, but it was totally worth it.
