Title: Saturday 7/27/2019 crash in Del Mar
Post by: Serge on July 28, 2019, 11:30:09 AM
Yesterday on Saturday 7/27/2019 around 12:30 pm I was riding south through Del Mar up the climb into town when near the top I saw two fire engines and a group of cyclists, mostly in NCCC jerseys, obviously stopped due to a some incident, perhaps a crash?

Anyone know what happened?  I hope everyone is okay.

Serge, one of our riders, Darron Manley, while having one hand on the handlebars inadvertently hit 2 potholes in a row, losing control completely when he hit the second one.  An ambulance quickly picked up Darron and got him to Scripps La Jolla. This is what Darren said on Strava (https://www.strava.com/activities/2568484468): "Clean bill of health from the Dr and good to go. Many spots of road rash and the bike will be easilly repaired. Very thankfull it wasn't worse." We're all wishing Darron a speedy and complete recovery. Also, Lee Schwarz tumbled over him and only has a thigh contusion as Darron padded her landing; Lee rode with the Sunday group today, appeared her usual strong self.

p.s. Ride co-leader Kevin Brickley took photos of the incident and the road conditions should compensation from Del Mar be required
