Title: Weekend road conditions Stage8 to Palomar Mtn.: A-OK!
Post by: kellyjay on February 14, 2009, 05:05:30 AM
Finished up the TOC Stage8 ride yesterday and here is the latest skinny on the roads.

So. Grade Road is dry up to the 4000' level. Then encountered fog and bits of roadside snow.
At the 4500' level, lots of roadside snow to the top. The roads were damp to the top.
Temp at noon was 41F. Felt like 34 with the fog.

The descent down East Grade was OK, with wet corners, but no ice. Snow levels down to 4500' there too. Road was clear.
Very strong winds near the Henshaw overlook.
The ride back on Hwy. 76 felt like the tropics, after the cool descent!

Overall, the roads are in excellent condition, with no snow on them. Great job by the local road crews!!!

Looks like a great weekend to ride up to Palomar Mtn. With sunny skies predicted.
No need to worry about the roads, they are good to GO!
Dress in warm layers, for the descent is COLD.

Enjoy the ride,
