Title: Dr. Jay Davis Passed Away . . .
Post by: Wayno Caldwell on May 17, 2009, 08:32:40 PM
Our Friend and NC3 member Dr. Jay Davis, has passed on to a much better place, with no cars, and pain free from the bladder cancer, which Jay had been battling for the last 5 years, matter of fact, one of Jay's last rides with the club in 2004, was the Solvang Double. Jay will be truly missed.

We wish Jay's wife Kim and family our condolence's and prayers as they go through this difficult time.

A memorial service is planned for Thurs May 21st @ 2:00pm, located at St. Anne's Anglican Church, 701 West St, Oceanside CA, 92054

To Jay: we love you, and we will miss you, and now you truly get to keep the rubber side down and in the air, all at once! We will see you soon!!!!

I am thankful that I knew the man and had the opportunity to ride with him for several years.

I have a lot of fond memories, Jay could always make me laugh.

I will miss him.

Jay and I dared each other into doing our first double together in 2003. In fact, we were "roomies" at Pepperdine before the ride. Jay kept me going (and smiling) my first year with NCCC when I thought there was no way I could possibly keep up. I have missed riding with Jay these past few years and now miss him even more.

Also Karl, if you remember, Jay and I drove up together to do that ride, and I ended up sleeping on that tiny couch in the room with you guys! We had such a great time on that ride.

What was really funny, was that Jay was supposed to drive, and when I got to his house to go, we packed up his minivan with all our stuff, bikes, food, and then Jay kissed Kim goodbye, and when we got in the van to go, it wouldn't start. Nothing, no click, nothing. So we ended up taking my car, which didn't have any bike racks back then. So we completely removed the back seat in our new Infiniti! and packed up two bikes and all our stuff. And the next morning, when we started the ride at like oh dark thirty, I couldn't find my Oakley's, so I ended up riding the entire double without sunglasses. Of course, Jay wanted to give me his, and we stopped once to buy a pair, but never actually found any. All in all, we had a great trip, with many more to come.

Jay and I used to ride with Celo, from like 1994 to 1999 with Mike Trone, Super Dave and Fireman Mark, and did lot's of ride's with Frank from Sunset Bikes, back when there was lot's of mountain biking from Calaveras to La Costa, when we would ride off road on Sunday afternoons for like 35 miles and finish with the hill climb challenge on Power Bar Hill, which has been off limits for years at Calaveras.

Jay brought lots of smiles, and was so caring and wanted nothing but the best for each person he came in contact with. You could really see that when he was treating all his patients at his Clinic. He's a tough act to follow.

I'm shocked to hear about Dr Jay.  He was always so friendly and so helpful, always willing to help with a flat and always giving encouragement.  I hadn't seem him in a couple of years so I had no idea he was ill.  I also had no idea he had done doubles!  He was an amazing man.

I wanted to thank everyone that came to Jay's Memorial. It was one of the best memorial's that I've been to. There was a slide show with lot's of great pictures of Jay and his family. The Service was very focused on what Jay wanted to tell everyone, that he knew that he was coming to the end of the road, but that he loved Jesus very much. It was a message of hope, and comfort to those that attended, and especially to his family.

In Loving Memory of James (Jayman) Cooke Davis, Jr.

A big loss to all who knew Jay.  A kinder gentler sole I do not know.  Soar on Dr. Jay, with the other Eagles in the heavens on high!
