Post by: kellyjay on September 22, 2009, 08:18:49 PM
Riders,
For a change of pace, the "Coronado Express" leaves MaGee Park in Carlsbad at 07:30 on Sat., Sept 26.
We'll stop by Swamii's at 08:10 on the way South.

The route goes South through San Diego and around the new Bay Bike Path to Coronado....57.14 miles
Then it's time for a break as we load up the Ferry for the short trip back to the SD Landing and a return trip....34.58 miles
For those wishing to get back early, you can jump the Coaster at the Santa Fe Station, near the SD Ferry landing.

The total route(not including Ferry trip) is 92 miles.
Ferry costs with carbon fiber ride...$3.50
Ferry costs with heavy Single Speed... same!

Feel free to join in along the route and depart at your pleasure.
We'll be riding at Rando pace.. 15-17 mph and regroup as required.

If you want to race, then wear your skinsuit and stop off at Fiesta Island please.

Bring your camera for kool water shots.
We'll take a short lunch break.

looks like fun,
kellyjay

Hey Kelly,  thanks for planning the ride !

The ride around San Diego bay was great, the scenery was exceptional.  With that 10 miles section of the route being on a dedicated bike path made it fun too.  That ride along the Silver Strand one goes on my top ten list. The Ferry ride was a good mid ride diversion while touring  the harbor going right by the huge cruise ships.   It is, hard to imagine that 10 to 14 stories of metal can still float.  ...but there it was, right before my own eyes.

You planned an excellent route, and did a good job planning the weather too.  Cool fog while climbing Torrey Pines, and sunshine on the boat ride.  Nice cool breeze on the ride back.  How did you arrange that ?

The pace was good.  We had a few opportunities to "burn some carbon" for those who need to run the rpms up a bit.  The regroups and stops kept us all together and hydrated.  No one was dropped, except when someone took a long time unloading at Swamis.  It was described as a "morning constitutional" as I recall.   More of a premeditated abandonment than a drop, we had many reasons to vacate the area.

In the traditional NCCC manner, we picked up riders, both planned and unplanned,  along the way and most peeled off somewhere along the way back.  It's the people that make a memorable trip, and we had a good combination to make the trip enjoyable, interesting, and exciting at times.

Needless to say, I had a great time.  Thanks, bro...
