If you'd like to spend just one evening learning new skills for riding on busy streets, there's a "Traffic Skills 101" class this Friday, May 21st at the Oceanside Public Library, 300 N. Coast Hwy. League of American Cyclists instructor/RAAM racer Pete Penseyres will offer a 3 and 1/2 hour slide-show and talk packed with practical information for riding in traffic. Cost is $35. At the end you can sign up for a Saturday morning on-the-bike practice session if you want. I was surprised at how much I learned when I took this course. Everyone learns at least one new idea to enhance safety. Ask me more, or ask Dolores Wells, who also teaches Traffic Skills 101 classes. Sign up at SDCBC.org and click on Classes.
The next version of this class is Friday, July 2, for the classroom portion and July 10 for the "road lab." Sign up at

You need to sign up for both sessions separately.
I'm taking this one as I figure there's always something to learn from Pete Penseyres.
