Title: Sunday ride, Mt. Laguna?
Post by: Nerius Landys on May 27, 2011, 03:29:12 PM
Hello everyone!

I found out about you guys through Jeff Gross, who coaches at UCSD Masters swimming.

I'd like to do the Sunday Sunrise Highway ride with you guys, but I also want to make sure it's only 50 miles and that it won't be a complete hammerfest.  I'm an ex-racer who is currently pretty out of shape, and I'm just looking for a moderate-paced ride.

You'll see me riding an ordinary steel bike wearing a yellow Duderstadt jersey - Duderstadt is a town in Germany I used to race for when I was living there many years ago.

Until then!

Well, the 47 mile Laguna triangle part is a standard, great San Diego ride. I would caution anyone who hasn't ridden with the group about the optional 20 mile Pine Creek loop. Generally requires strength, low gears, and fortitude, as there are 4-5 miles > 10% grade the whole way. Some people will opt for the 47 mi part and can add in another Sunrise Hwy climb if you want more miles, while others complete the 67 mile loop. Please check the Message Board, also, as the wind  forecast does not look good for Sunday.
