Title: Portland Bike Manager at SDCBC annual meeting
Post by: Karl Rudnick on December 12, 2011, 08:41:19 PM
There was a nice article in today's Union Tribune (Section B, page 1 (http://sandiegouniontribune.ca.newsmemory.com/publink.php?shareid=346d0787a)), about Mia Birk, one of the movers and shakers behind the City of Portland's top urban cycling environment (despite way more rain than sunny San Diego). She is the keynote speaker at this coming Wednesday's San Diego County Bicycle Coalition meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Mission Brewery. The meeting will run some normal business from 4:00-4:15 at which point Mia Birk will speak for about 45 minutes. After some rewards are presented, the ride will start about 5:30, so lights are a necessity. Bike parking is available if you ride. It's a short ride followed by appetizers and a drink paid by your registration.

You can pay your $10 online by following this link (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=MFF4J3UHF9ESY).

Hope to see some others there. I'm going to work early tomorrow, so I can make this event.

Karl,
Is there any way I can get in contact with Mia.  I don't think I can make it to the Bike Coalition Meeting.  I do a partial cross country trip every year to raise money for poverty housing.  This summer we will be riding from Seattle to San Diego so would like to contact her.  I am mainly interested in roads to travel, churches we might stay at, and most importantly, to get their cyclists involved.  They can ride for the day, for the week, or whatever they want.  Thanks so much.

Susan - Her presentation was remarkable, but I only can claim to have ridden along side her for a few minutes. Best place to contact her would be through http://www.miabirk.com/
