Title: Monday Dec 26th Holiday Long Riders
Post by: seanb on December 20, 2011, 07:53:16 AM
Monday December 26th is a holiday for many of us, any long riders thinking of riding? If so, maybe we can coordinate a group ride. It could be a good opportunity to test out all the cool bike gear santa brought for you.

Sean,
I am definitely planning on riding Monday.  If we can get even a small group together, that would be great. And any route is good with me.  Need to burn off all those calories from good German cooking.

I might decide to ride Monday. Let me know the route.

I think I can get a pass to ride that day as well.

I'll look into a pass for me as well.

BTW - anyone else have Friday off and can't make either weekend ride?  Maybe a Friday and Monday ride?  Route?  Well for those who know me, know I can't find the Starbucks on the corner so let's see if anyone is interested and take it from there.

I am interested in the Monday ride.  Any route will be fine with me.

I was thinking of riding to 7-11 for beer on Monday.  I guess I could go on Friday too.

Well then, how about meeting at OCRR at 8:30 on Monday? Someone suggest  a route - or we can improv - anything but Pie II.

Ok, so folks who are interested in a ride on FRIDAY, what do you think about starting at OCRR and then head to the coast and up through Pendleton and the camp grounds?  Start at 8:30 or maybe even 9AM?  Bill/Frank - thoughts?  would you rather start at Magee park?  The wind looks like it might still be up so staying near the coast should be better???  I'm still a newbie, what do I know.

For Friday, how about an 8:30 start, to the coast, north to the San Luis Rey bike path, then inland to Sleeping Indian/Bonsall, W. Lilac, Circle R, and then 395 to Twin Oaks?  Or we can always just see where the wind blows us . . .

If you guys are starting at OCRR and riding to Oceanside, I'll join you when you ride by my house.  When you enter Oceanside and turn left at Angelo's, it's the first house on the left.  It's 13.7 miles from OCRR so you should pass here about 9:15.

Okay Bill you called my bluff - "wind" was code for my legs still hurt and my feet are still cold from Pie ride, so I was planning something more flat.....AND I if I was going to "lead/organize" I needed minimal turns so I don't get lost.  ......but I'm up for anything (famous last words) so is this the route?

I'm not sure I got the "usual" cut throughs correct.  I'll also need to check on my "pass" for Friday since it this would be a longer day than I might have communicated.  ;D

I think that traffic is going to be heavy on Friday (& Saturday for that matter) any route that keeps us out of the line of fire would be ideal.

For Monday - route design challenge: no stop signs, no traffic lights, no left-hand turns. Prize at least goes to the minimum sum total of all three. Anyway, I like Anthony's route, a reasonable shot at this goal.

Anthony you've really make a killer ride for Friday - love the Twin Oaks climb thrown in at the end!  Been watching too many of those "cyclist" videos and are determined to suffer? Well, see you at 8:30 at OCRR tomorrow.  I'll think about a minimal traffic route for Monday.  Think, think.

Anthony,

This is a challenging ride for Friday. I'm half-committed, I need to get my better half to sign-off on it. If so, I'll see all of you in the AM. BTW,Anthhony, tag your it (ride leader).  ;)

Hang on gang - I don't claim that route, that was Bill's counter proposal......I thought that's why I mapped it to see if I understood it correctly.  MY original suggestion was a much more pleasant ride through Pendleton.  My feet are stil cold and my legs still hurt from the epicness of Sunday, so no matter where we ride tomorrow my "hammer" is left at home  (I'd say it is a small and not much of a hammer..... but that would open me up to all kinds on rude comments.)  I'll just be happy to be out riding so, let's show up and modify a ride we're all willing to do at a reasonable pace (ok - reasonable for me might be slow for some of you.)

Frank - regardless of where we end up riding we'll start by going by the coast to meet you around 9:15.  I'll program your number into my phone to call.

Now....one caveat....my wife and son have infected my with some damn cold so if I feel the same way I do today, I'll be out there, much worse than today.....have fun and I'll see you on Monday.

BTW - I like Karl's challenge for Monday but my challenge for tomorrow, is for anyone to find a route with a constant tailwind.

If I don't answer and I'm not in front of the house, it means it's too windy and I'm hiding from you guys.

Wish I could join you all, but some of us have to work.  I'll be thinking of you.  See you Saturday and Monday.

If I'm fit, I will be riding Saturday and Monday as well.  I may even abandon you guys and go with the regular ride on Saturday.   :)

No chance for me on Friday or Sunday.

I'll cruise by OCRR around 8:30, then head to the coast, maybe alone, maybe not.  Will look for Frank as I pass through Oceanside.  Hope you feel better Anthony S!

Nice ride today for the 4 of us, me, Bill, Frank and Isaac.  We got separated, sadly as I was taking off the top layers from the cold morning, so we just finished with 3....sorry Bill.  See everyone on Monday and I hope you all have a great Xmas.

Now that Friday is behind you guys, just confirming that the Monday ride is still planning to leave at OCRR at 8:30 and the proposed route is what Anthony Sc. previously posted - a "John's ride" variation. Tony Long  also has a nice route to Oceanside Harbor at 9am from OCRR, so that may be an alternative if everyone is interested in a slightly shorter ride. I plan to be there at 8:30. Others, too...?

Karl,
I will definitely be at OCRR at 8:30 for a "long ride."  Any route is good with me.  See you then.

If the 4 riders did Anthony's route on Friday, Ursula, maybe people might be interested in a Lake Wohlford climb, followed by an exploration of Hellhole Canyon Preserve, Guejito Rd, etc., which you and I were contemplating the day we rode in the rain (just 2 of us) for 3 hrs. Just a thought as weather should be perfect this time (clear and 4deg cooler than this warm Christmas day), and maybe someone like Escondido Bill has actually even been out there. I'll be there at 8:15 for pre-ride pow-wow route decision - Karl

A modest proposal - http://ridewithgps.com/routes/865295 (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/865295).  76 is unpleasant, and Lilac is graded dirt at the bottom, but it'd be a change! See you in the morning to hash things out!
