All,

For us Regular Riders we have nice ride coming up this Saturday.  We start at 7:00 AM and ride up to Orange County (OC) and back. The planned route takes us up Highway 5 for several miles while bypassing Camp Pendleton.  I've done this before and its legal and safe.  For those that would rather avoid Hwy 5 and go through Camp Pendleton you may and we will meet you at the other side at the bike path entrance located at Las Pulgas Road past the Camp Pendleton North Gate.

Keep in mind that riding through Camp Pendleton requires you to fill out the on-line application and to carry a GOVT ID (Drivers license, etc...).  Here's the link:

The goal of this ride is mainly for time on the saddle and we won't have too much climbing.  It has some beautiful coastal scenery while riding on parts of old and historic Hwy 101. Best of all, we'll have a nice sit down lunch at the half-way point in OC.   ;)

  See you all there.   :D

Hi Ken,

Looking at the route, it's approx. 22.5 miles from OCRR to the CP southern gate.   Some (like me) will probably ride through CP, not on the 5. When do you anticipate the group arriving at the CP main and/or Las Pulgas gates?  TIA, Steve

Steve,

We start together and split at the turn off onto I-5. Those who go through CP will continue straight into the south entrance.

Steve,

Approximately 9:00 at Las Pulgas Rd. Depending on wind, flats, etc...

Ok, so about 30 miles in two hours.  Makes sense.  I plan on meeting the group at CP south gate, so based on 22.5 miles, it looks like the group will arrive at CP south at about 8:30 am.

Ken and Steve,

I hope to join your coastal century ride tomorrow but my preference is going through CP to avoid the 15. Steve if you want company through CP we can meet at the south gate with whoever else is planning on going through CP.

Looks like about an extra mile if you go through CP.

Ken, do you plan on re-grouping at Las Pulgas to re-unite both groups?

Sean,

Absolutely. Regroup at the Las Pulgas Road bike path entrance.

Sounds good, Sean.  Based on 1.5 hrs. for the group to reach the south entrance to CP, I'll be there by 8:15-8:30 am.

Thank Ken/Steve.

Hopefully there will be a few that want to go through CP. In any case, I will look for you Steve at the main south gate when we, the group, arrive at the gate.

I have never ridden the 5 and I am considering trying it on the return just for the hell of it.

Ken and all,

Great ride, thanks for all the coordination and wonderful lunch spot. Looking forward to the June century.

Sean,

You're always welcome and it was great having you join us.
