Dear NCCC Friends

Many of the Long riders and the NCCC Board know that I just had a hip replacement 8 days ago. I checked in at 7am and was back home by 2pm same day. Right now I'm working through physical therapy and icing to get the swelling and bruising down from being cut and having muscles stretched. Good news is no joint pain, and I'm off any opioids to control the surgical pain which never got above a 5 anyway.

So I was really surprised to get a beautiful bouquet of flowers the other day in a honey bee ceramic vase, "Bee Well Soon". The card just said "From Your NCCC Friends" so I'm posting a big thank you here, whoever you really are. It was quite a lift to spirits.

Can't wait to get on the bike soon, but the doc and PT are telling me "SLOW" the first couple weeks for ultimately faster and stronger recovery. I'm up to 20 minute walks in my old man walker, but am really itching to hop on the trainer in the garage. After 7 months of relative non-bike riding, I need to get moving again and try to shed some of the lovely weight I've acquired while Jill has been feeding me too well during this whole ordeal.

And this is no big deal, as this was totally under my control. Get well wishes are even more important for those who unexpectedly are injured during a collision on a bike ride. And for those of you contemplating a hip replacement, go for it. Any cyclist would love to have titanium, ceramic, and plastic parts to replace one OLD bone against another OLD bone.

Many THANKS!!!  8)
