Orders closed! Go to this link for more pick up information.

Voler has given us a short time window to place additional orders for last fall's clothing line. This is a great opportunity for new members, people who just happened to miss out last time, and those who love the stuff so much they want more... to finally get their jerseys, etc. We need a minimum of 15 pieces and the ordering period will close July 1926, so go for it now. 8)

To avoid confusion, for people seeing this topic for the first time, this ordering period was closed July 27, 2008. A topic of discussion for the Dec 8 board meeting will be to have a solid annual date for club clothing orders, so that everyone will know when this occurs. I am sorry if anyone just missed out on this last order.

Additionally, after this order is received by us for distribution - any orders not picked up within 60 days will become part of the club inventory. So if you order, please pick them up - Dave Morton still has 3 orders sitting in his garage from last year.

Wow - 3 orders in already! I actually received a 4th order, but no name or e-mail was filled in. Without any kind of identification, my poor software cannot process the order. The form should provide you feedback as to what you entered - please double-check that the top 3 items (firstName, lastName, mailfrom) properly identify you. If not, just re-submit the order (nothing will break). [EDIT: The extra order received was re-submitted with name and e-mail - THANKS. Also, another way to check whether your order is really in the database is to check the Order Summary page at http://northcountycycleclub.com/clothingOrderSummary.htm]

karlos

We received 8 orders within the first 24 hrs after opening this back up and have met our 15 piece minimum.
KEEP EM COMING !

Karl

The form has a hair trigger if you press return it submits and also doesn't tell you if you have missed information before is submits - so you have three forms from me - one annonymous, one 'douglas' and the correct one. So only one road jersey (L), one Bib Shorts (M) and one pair arm wamers (M).

I will be away for while how do I pay for the order.

The form was purposely put together quickly and is processed by a script on our web host. I felt it wasn't worth my time (several hours) to program a validating script as the form worked just fine the last time. Yes, it does require a little care and I hope everyone is patient.  If we stick with this process, I can put in some validation, so thanks for the feedback. I'll put a note not to hit ENTER on the form as it does do a SUBMIT if you're not ready. Use the mouse or the tab key to navigate the fields of the form.  Just like last time, the forms are automatically processed on my home machine to generate a nicely formatted receipt. This also gives me a chance to screen the form and provide a little personal attention so you don't get the really nice looking bill until I open up my e-mail and run the software on my home machine, usually 12-24 hrs. I hope this is still way easier than the old hardcopy forms and it ensures that we get the inventory exactly right for the order to Voler - previously a very manual process with room for human error.

Thanks for the suggestions - Karl

I added simple validation to the form which ensures a first name, last name, and e-mail address are filled in and the hair trigger condition should no longer occur until those 3 things are non-blank and the e-mail address "looks" valid. Of course, it's up to you to spell them right! And it only took about 90 minutes to code and test - not several hours - I always exaggerate  ;) . Please let me know if you have problems with the form. I did one test submittal. If anyone else wants to test it and not really submit an order, let me know. Even if you want to submit it, go ahead, but put "this is a test" in the Special Notes and the order will not be processed.

The response to this order has been more than expected - including many who ordered last fall. 15 orders have been processed - 36 pieces in all, far exceeding the minimum. We won't likely have a new design or new ordering period until fall 2009, so this is a chance to replace old worn out jerseys. So ... keep 'em coming!

In the heat when it gets sweaty, the edges of the chamois in the club short gives me a skin rash from rubbing. Does anyone else get this reaction?

Jeff,
I'm having the same problem with last years bib shorts, maybe the Chamois in your shorts is getting a liitle tired.  Is it possible that you already have too many miles on the garment in question? :-\  Seriously though, I've had a lot of luck with applying a generous application of regular old A&D Ointment to the problem areas prior to suiting up during the Summer months on every brand/version of the shorts or bibs I wear.  It (A&D) lasts longer than any OTC "Bag Balm" type of unguent and it is certainly much more economical. ;)  I'll bring a tube to this Saturday's ride so you can eyeball the product and maybe give it a shot.  BTW, according to my G-Mum and Mum this stuff has been used for ages and the customer list includes the Royal Family.  Mind you Mum (God rest her) tended to like her cocktails, and G-Mum was other-worldly by anyone's standards but I can't argue with success.   Bottom Line..... Ya got to lube in the hot months bro!

2nd that motion - but I use Chamois Butt'r. I'll check out the A&D, though, especially if I can save some $$$  8)

Jeff / Dave,
Thank you very much for your great personal insight surrounding this matter but shouldn't this discussion take place behind Jeff's van in hushed tones rather than such a public forum? Please consider those in the group who have struggled to hold your wheel and the mental image now forever burned upon our minds. And to Karl: Is this really an area where you want to save money?

True Bottom Line: Lather up quietly, my freinds, let us believe that grimace a result of your last climb!

LET"S GET REAL HERE, PLEASE!

NO, I'm not going to go behind closed doors or in back alleys to discuss this topic.
This is basic cycling info and needs to be out in the open and discussed with riders who want to know.
There is nothing sexual or embarrassing here and there is no reason to hide it.

As a long distance avid cyclist, I've tried them all.
Instead of going into the lengthly tirade on each, I'll just go straight to the point. One word:

LANTISEPTIC:Skin Protectant

This is the secret stuff that the endurance riders have used for years.
This stuff feels different, is weird and it WORKS. Road tested on the long rides by me and hundreds of other ultra cyclists.
This is what I used yesterday for the Jacumba ride in the blast furnace out east.

Bottom Line:
If you want to protect what you have, heal what you shouldn't have and not worry about your bottom end, cycle over  to Wal-Mart Pharmacy, order it out. Get a jar 2 days later for $4.42 and try it out. If it degrades you to go to Wal-Mart, then go to another Pharmacy, pay $12 and help the economy a little more.

It comes in tubes, jars and little paks too. Check it out on the web first!

If your too embarrassed to read and learn about things with fellow riders, then go hide in the closet.
If you want to enjoy cycling, broaden your horizons, gain knowledge and communicate with your peers, then join in the conversation.

IN FACT, I think it's time for a newsletter article on this very subject!

keep smiling and protect your BUTT please!

PS: Can we discuss saddles here?

OK, since the discussion is open, here is what I learned about application. This came from a special I saw at least 4 years ago on Lance Armstrong. It showed Lance on a typical training day, waking up to a strong brew of Peet's coffee, then preparing for his 120+ mile 6hrs in the saddle. As he was talking to the interviewer, I was surprised to see him open up his shorts inside out, lay them out on the sink, and with generous amounts of some kind of chamois creme (he refused to say the brand on the air, claiming it was magic, but I think it was Asos), covering his entire chamois with a thin, even layer of the stuff. So, no matter what brand you go for, I figured if it works for Lance, it's gotta be for me. I have NEVER had any kind of problem following this regimen for any brand of shorts. You'll get used to the squishy feeling when you put on your shorts (perhaps that is Kelly's reference to "weird") - and I do occasionally down that cup of Peet's as well.

Since the orders keep coming in, we can extend the ordering period through next Saturday, July 26, after which we will button it down and get the order off to Voler.
