From Pete Penseyres:

"The last 2 Traffic Skills 101 Classes offered in Oceanside for 2009 are this weekend, September 18-19, and October 23-24.  Details and registration information are on the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition website: http://www.sdcbc.org/classes.htm#1"

I know we all feel we may be too experienced for such a class, but I was flying down Rancho California to Temecula with Pete's group today and the light turned red on us. Pete and his brother executed a perfect "quick stop" but I wasn't as adept and rolled halfway out into the intersection, trying to stop without hitting the pavement. Pete reminded me that the quick stop is one of the topics in this class and gave me a short tutorial. So, although we're all pretty skilled by virtue of all the riding we do, I think there is still something we can all take away from this class.

Hm.. I once had to do a mandatory quick stop when a SUV pulled into the bike lane in front of me and STOPPED as I was  heading with a group down the hill on coast highway into Del Mar from Solano Beach by the dog beach.... Luckily i stopped with in a 1/4 inch of the back of the SUV but my tire had a huge hole in it from skidding.

I think I may need to learn that quick stop!
