We rode as planned up to Sunset Beach and returned.
Here is a micro report of the action:

6 Riders left the start Dan Phillips hooked up in Carlsbad.
Ben and Eric R. joined up at Magee Park in Carlsbad.
10 riders total after Carlsbad.

It was foggy, damp and cool, with my high temps only 63F the whole trip. Not great right along the coast.
Sherman, Dan Phillips and I caught a fast club train most of the way up the coast.
Later, we hooked up behind some racer with a powermeter! After a few miles of us sucking his wheel, he got pissed off and turned.. Poor sport!

Chris and Mike returned at Laguna Nigel for their 100 miles.

Got to Sunset Beach at 11:35 PM! Which was really lickedy-split!
Sam arrived only 5 min behind, so he had a good ride up too.
Ben, Eric, Mike, Osvaldo soon there after.
Don't know what happened to William Volk after Laguna and his recumbant with the box on the back. He said he had to get back by 5:00 PM. He passed us all on the downhills!

We regrouped after a too long break and headed south into fog at 12:15 PM. Seemed like another headwind.
The group stayed more together, with Dan & I plotting to hit Sherman hard on those short climbs.
I told Greg he'll need to get a triple next time!
He said he was overweight, around 12 lbs., but his $20 rear swap-meet tire was still holding air!

We turned on our rear blinkies, due to the heavier fog in sections.
Osvaldo had the nice twin Planet Bike light set up.
Sam didn't have any lights... lite and fast or was that lite and get lost?
Sherman had the same, lame ol light belt that you couldn't see from 20 feet away!

Ben and Eric left at Las Pulgas, where they had their SUV. Eric looked much stronger with the weight loss and the new fitted SST!
Ben was his usual self, yapping away and yelling at the women!

Dan left the gruppo in Carlsbad. He pulled strong most of the day. Rode the full 141miles his ride in way.

Sam rode a good ride, big chainring climbs and felt good at the finish.
Osvaldo rode his usual strong, steady ride on his full rando bike with no leg warmers!

Greg S. had his orange garb on, and weird light belt, but rode good in spite of.
Mike Shaw rides a lot of club rides and looked good throughout.
I left my helmet on the ground after the finish at Circle K, so I sucked big time. And that camo helmet had only 1 crack in it too!

The rest all finished together before 5:00 PM.
So the trip was under 10 hrs, which I thought was good, with cool, foggy weather.
No flats, not even Sam! Huh?

see you the next trip,
kellyjay
