Here we are again summertime will soon bring back RAAM to Oceanside. NCCC has been asked to provide escort riders for RAAM, your Board of Directors has agreed. Volunteers are requested to contact Jim Cook at: Jim.Cook@raceacrossamerica.org. Please note that the course has changed to avoid construction on Hwy 76. The route now goes up Sleeping Indian to Morro Hills then down Olive back to Camino del Rey. Be sure to wear your NCCC kit when riding escort.

Not sure if the info is out there...but I can't seem to find it.  By Volunteer Escorts I am assuming they want our club to ride out from the start with the racers again.  I am finding dates and times for Course Marshals but assume that is a different thing.  Anyone know if/when our club will be doing the ride escort as in the past?  I contacted Jim Cook several days ago and have not heard back.

Okay, now I found it...I am supposed to contact Paul Nevins... nc3vp@northcountycycleclub.com

Until recently I lived in O'Fallon Missouri, and the RAAM course was only about 1.5 miles from my house.  It was very interesting and inspiring to see the riders at that stage in the race.

It was always Fathers day weekend when they would come through, the same weekend that there was a local triathlon taking place.  I would volunteer if I wasn't participating in the tri.  One year I was in charge of the bike course which shared a few miles with the RAAM course.  The evening before the race I was sweeping up some gravel at a 90 degree turn out in the farmlands in the flood plain.  All was quiet and empty as the sun was setting, but then I heard an amplified voice in the distance which gradually got louder and louder.  It was one of the RAAM riders and his crew.   While he rode though the dusk, the crew in the van behind him was reading messages people had sent to him.  It was a bit surreal.

Are we giving "escorts" on Tues or Wed also, or just Saturday?

What are the "report to the start" times that you want us there, ready to ride?

Thanks,
Ron

I will be at the Oceanside pier Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday at 11 AM. Meet at the coffee cart under the pier just north of the bandstand at 11:30. There is free parking on North Cleveland and North Tremont Streets between Neptune and Civic Center Drive. it's an easy ride down Surf Rider Way to the Strand then South to the pier.
