Stop signs in Delmar

On the Cruiser's ride last Friday, we got stopped by a deputy sheriff in Delmar for a stop sign infraction.  Only the lead rider ( who will remain nameless to avoid any justly deserved embarassment) was stopped, but got off with a warning.  Some riders were shocked that they had to stop at stope signs and now have to retrain themselves.

be careful out there.

Just to let everyone know if they choose to run the stop signs along PCH, it will be a $175 infraction.  I was stop a few months back in Encinitas, by Swami's and a county Sheriff got me.

Del Mar has always been a hot spot for stop sign enforcement. Depending on which sheriff you get, and your attitude, you can ride away with a short tongue lashing or a ticket.

I hope that you were being sarcastic when you said, "Some riders were shocked that they had to stop at stop signs and now have to retrain themselves".

I really wish I was being facetious about the comment that some riders didn't realize they had to stop.  I am continually amazed at the incorrect information some cyclists get about the rules of the road.  I have heard members claim that it is not required to stop at a light for a t-intersection (most notably PCH in south Carlsbad).  They actually think the law excludes cyclists from having to stop. I am slowly beginning to educate some riders but it is amazing the amount of ignorance out there.

The City of Oceanside offers a class in Bicycle Safety in conjunction with League of American Cyclists.

This is really easy.... No need to stop... Just roll right through... Oh, but if you don't see the Police Car or motocycle cop waiting to write you a ticket, I guess it was pretty stupid of you, and certainly a breech of safety...   If you didn't see the Police, you probably won't see tje pedesctrian, cyclist, motorist etc.  in time to stop safely.  Slow down, what's your hurry?    This Idiot on Wheels received His first Citation from the O'side Police a couple of months back.   I guess I should of attended DeeTour's Cyclist Safety Class.  $175.00 Fine... OUCH!
