All - Attached is a flyer created by the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition's Education Committee on how to use roundabouts. This was in response to the Ranchos being somewhat confused by the new roundabout at State St and Carlsbad, which I hope you all have ridden by now and love. Also of interest is this City of Carlsbad Educational video (1:49) on this specific roundabout. The most important thing for us cyclists to take away is that we have only have 2 options: (1) ride (drive) your bike like a motorist; (2) dismount and be a pedestrian. There are no bike facilities within roundabouts, and it is a mistake to squeeze right so that cars can dangerously pass on the left and then right hook you or be confused by where you're trying to exit. The flyer also is restricted to single-lane roundabouts as multi-lane roundabouts present some different challenges and actually their usage varies by state.

There are 5 roundabouts scheduled to appear on Hwy 101 in Leucadia in a couple years, so we'll all be in tune by the time these go into effect. No more annoying stop signs along that stretch!

Enjoy roundabouts as they become more popular and pass the flyer around to anyone wanting this information
