Last Saturday morning Troy and I were riding north on Escondido Blvd up from Beethoven and North County Fair. Right as we crossed the intersection of Citracado Parkway a guy threw a bolt into Troy's front wheel. Troy suffered a broken clavicle, 3 broken ribs and a pneumothorax! The cops picked up the guy but released him immediately.

I went back yesterday and spoke to the neighboring businesses, this guy (Johnny Thomas) is well know as a violent mentally deranged individual. Here's an email from a tech at the Amina hospital:
' My name is Karla. I am one of the techs here, I know exactly where this gentleman walks around. I come into contact with him every morning on my way to work because he throws things at my car and flips me off.
He comes out of the apartments that are next to Canterberry gardens, they are called Haven 76. He is constantly outside every morning at around 6:50-7:00am. He is always wearing that big jacket, if the authorities have been notified and need to know where he is, that's where you will find him.'

Best to avoid this area until he is permanently taken off the street.

I'm so sorry to read this!  Sending well wishes your way for comfort and healing.
Can't believe it that the police authorities are not taking action with this guy 🤬

Sadly I heard some disturbing misinformation today regarding the crash on January 4 when Troy and I were assaulted by a dirtbag. Yes there was a witness, I was a 3-4 feet behind Troy when the bolt was thrown into his front wheel, yes I saw the guy make a throwing motion just before Troy crumpled in front of me. I don't know how I was able to avoid going right over his neck, I think my moving to the left when I noticed the guy move at us gave the bike enough sideways shift so when I jerked to avoid Troy the wheels cleared his head. Troy was unconscious for 2-3 minutes and couldn't remember anything for a day or more. Whoever is pontificating on the incident needs to correct the misinformation they have been disseminating immediately. As to the wheel picking up the bolt it's not true, we were moving off a stop sign and had a clear view of the pavement out in front it was perfectly clean nothing on the ground at all.

Thank you for posting this incident and I hope Troy is recovering to good health. I ride this area at least a couple times a week and will keep an eye out for this person. Paul

Oh my, just saw this. Hope Troy is alright now, and I also thank you for posting this. I ride through there sometimes myself. I hope that man is off the street in a mental nstitution where he belongs.
